Hello and welcome,
I hope you’re having a great Easter and are full to the chops with chocolate already – local Sussex chocolate of course! No guilt, you deserve every mouthful for surviving the events of the last year! This is, without doubt, my favourite time of year, and although it may be a cliché, I am addicted to watching an old beech tree and a huge chestnut tree in my garden as they burst back into life. I always think the beech tree has a touch of the exotic and mystical about it, while the bold colours of the fresh green leaves of the chestnut against a blue sky are utterly invigorating.
Sussex is definitely stirring and if you’re looking for some Sussex holiday inspiration, you’re in luck.
Our regular wine writer, Lisa Brace, has been checking out a rare and delightful rosé demi-sec produced at Sussex’s very own vineyard, Coolhurst Vineyard, just outside Horsham. It’s the only wine of this type in the world, and perfect for those spring evenings spent on the terrace.
Sticking to the wine theme, for those who want to get active, did you know there are quite literally hundreds of official walking trails across the county? I’m trying to walk them all, and you can see how I got on with the second section of the West Sussex Literary Trail last month – it just happens to pass right through two Sussex vineyards! Fancy that.
If you’re thinking of moving house, our property writer Bridget Cordy may blow you away with details of a stunning and recently renovated property in Bognor Regis. It’s elegance and charm all the way. Sussex Martlets cricket is the epitome of Sussex style and represents the finest traditions of wandering cricket. Picture long, lazy summer days listening to the sound of willow on leather and watching some of the best players in the county, all against the stunning backdrop of Arundel castle.
That’s it for now. Have a good week.
Lucy
