Discover, explore and savour the best of Sussex

Lewes, Harting Down, local markets and flowers

Welcome to this week’s newsletter, brought to you just as the sun comes out at last!

I’m in love with the South Downs Way. There, I’ve said it, and luckily it doesn’t matter whether it’s raining, brilliant sunshine or pitch dark, I really can’t get enough of it, and I head off and explore a new part at every chance I get. Hence my trip to the stunning Harting Down section recently, details of which are below. And apparently, I’m not alone in my adoration of this ancient trail because it was recently named the “10th Most Beautiful Hiking Trail in the World” by outdoors specialist Zalando…right up there with the likes of the Inca Trail and the Camino de Santiago! How lucky are we to have it right here on our doorstep in Sussex?

Apart from the heady heights of Harting, this week, I’ve also been back to Lewes for a good mooch around visiting all the essential “must-see” haunts, and over to Shoreham market to sample some great local produce. While I’ve been doing that, Lisa Brace has been catching up with our Sussex flower farmers with news of a flower extravaganza this weekend.

So yes, here’s hoping we get a chance to throw off our sou’westers, grab our sun parasols and enjoy some well-deserved sunshine and our great Sussex county this weekend. That’s it from me, have a great weekend.
