7 Wonderful Sussex Christmas Markets

Christmas is hurtling towards us like an unstoppable runaway train, and warnings of shortages and memories of last year’s aborted Christmas, means many of you are well and truly stuck into your Christmas shopping. There’s less than a month to go but don’t panic, because there are still a number of markets that are open for business with warm and welcoming arms.

Brighton Christmas Market

Brighton Christmas Market is part of the bigger Brighton Christmas Festival and does sound fantastic. There are going to be 80 festive stalls, purpose-built entertainment venues, live shows, and Santa’s workshop, of course!

There’s even going to be an Après Ski zone with mulled wine and EastEnders’ legend Anita Dobson will be turning on Brighton’s Christmas lights. Brighton Christmas Festival is free and is running from 26 November – 31 December 2021. It opens at 11 am at Valley Gardens.

Just outside Haywards Heath, some of you will be familiar with Jeremy’s Restaurant. This Christmas, their market includes Jeremy’s itself, The Green Tree Gallery and Borde Hill Gardens and will have 30 local food and drink producers and pop-up street food traders. The market is on the 11 and 12 December from 10 to 5 pm. Entry is free and the market will be supporting the Chailey Heritage Foundation.

Gin Fest at Borde Hill

Seaford’s Christmas Magic

This one-day event on 4 December from 11 am – 5 pm will be in Seaford’s Crouch Gardens and various sites throughout the town. It includes live music, seasonal readings interspersed with acoustic music and song in St Leonards Church, and market stalls with festive goodies.

There will also be a Santa’s grotto, lantern making and a lantern parade as it gets dark as well as a Golden Ticket Shop Trail.  If you find all the tickets, there is some sort of surprise for you!

Arundel at Christmas

Always evocative, Arundel pulls out all the stops when it comes to Christmas. Their one-day “Arundel by Candlelight” event is now “Arundel at Christmas”, which takes place throughout December and it’s well worth checking out their full programme of events (Facebook is the best for details).

Arundel Christmas Market is on the 4 December and promises to showcase a wonderful range of hand-picked independent stall-holders, selling unique ranges of clothing, jewellery, seasonal gifts as well as a holly and mistletoe stall. And of course, it wouldn’t be Christmas without roast chestnuts, mulled wine and hog roasts.
