I’m not going to lie … it’s a little bit soggy in Sussex at the moment! But for anyone who is a fan of mud, there is no better place to be!
Undeterred, this week I’ve been braving the elements! I headed off up the South Downs from Tottington Manor Hotel. To say it was bleak would be an understatement but there is beauty in bleakness and I met a wonderful herd of goats. On a clear day, the views are stunning and if you’re looking for a walk in spring, this is a good one.
I also went in search of Jacob’s Post at Ditchling Common. It’s only a small monument but has an interesting backstory of murder and superstition!
The good news is that if you want some outside activity that involves less effort and mud, some of the NGS gardens are now reopening and Geoff Stonebanks has all the details of what to see where!
And for the foodies, when I met the new chef at The Mirabelle Restaurant at The Grand recently, he shared his recipe for Salmon Gravlax. I thought it might make a nice easy dish for Easter!
Finally, it’s that time of the month again when our Sussex health expert shares her knowledge, and this month she has advice on coping with the common cold. And there has certainly been a few of those around lately.
That’s it for now. If anyone is in Brighton at the weekend, give me a cheer as I crawl my way round the half marathon.
Take care.
