Autumn colours, bonfires, supper clubs & a trip to Bexhill

It is the beginning of a new month already and to match the moment, this week’s newsletter is bursting with autumn feels.

Before we get to that, of course, a new month means a new Town of the Month, and this time we’re celebrating all things Bexhill. You may have spotted us out and about there yesterday. It’s a fascinating little town, with its old town, a host of celebrity residents past and present, and some wonderfully interesting architecture. On a sunny day, it’s hard to beat a walk along the promenade or a visit to the De La Warr Pavilion.

Bonfire season is already under way and last weekend, I was delighted to see Mayfield bedecked in its bonfire attire and to see the locals of Buxted out in their stripy bonfire shirts. I’ve rounded up some of the big bonfire events taking place this year for you, and I’ll be trying to get to as many as I can. Perhaps I’ll see you there.

If bonfires don’t make you feel autumnal, perhaps a walk around an arboretum will. We visited this one near Fittleworth in the summer, but autumn is the perfect time to catch the changing colours.

And finally, there’s a new supper club in town. I was delighted to be invited to Poynings Grange Vineyard earlier this week for an evening hosted by the Sussex Peasant: a glorious celebration of the connections between people, produce, places and stories. More events are planned, and I suspect they’ll sell out fast.

That’s it for now. Don’t forget to check out our What’s On in October; we’ve added at least one new event since last week. I’m heading off to walk from Bexhill to Battle ahead of the big celebrations later this month. Have a lovely weekend!
