Autumn walks & menus, foraging & curl up reads

OK, so who has thought about putting the heating on already? It’s amazing to think that less than a month ago we were melting in our skins, but there is something wonderful about the fresh new beginnings (and mornings) of autumn, so I, for one, am throwing myself into the new season.

This week, that involved a really fabulous walk via Bramber. It had incredible views, medieval history (a soupçon of 1066), blackberries, sloes and rosehips for the foragers, and even an emu! Better still, we finished at TERRA Restaurant, right at the foot of the Downs for a lunch full of local produce and autumn flavours. Perfect!

For those of you who are not fans of welly boots and brambles, how about an urban walk in Shoreham? It’s got coffee shops aplenty and lots of interesting things to discover, with an optional section along the beach.

On days like last  Wednesday, when it absolutely poured, Kate Mosse’s new book, Autumn, is the perfect antidote and will get you falling in love with the weather. Or perhaps, on those rainy stay-at-home days, you’d prefer a little inspiration as you make your home cosy for winter.

If all that hasn’t got you loving September, then nothing will. Have a great weekend and I hope to see you out and about.
