Nothing beats a good potter and browse followed by coffee and cake. Or maybe wine, but I digress. Shopping in Hurstpierpoint has the bonus of free parking in the long-stay car park in Trinity Road from where you can head into the village for a good old meander.

Flea markets and emporiums
RetroSpective is an absolute treasure trove for the Hurstpierpoint forager. On two floors, it’s crammed to the rafters with vintage items and antiques, home and soft furnishings, upcycled items, and pretty much everything in between. You could lose yourself for a considerable period of time here but when you’re done, hop along the High Street a few steps to Café Murano. Here you’ll find more vintage finds from funky vintage glasses to Scandi jumpers, jewellery and maybe the occasional set of antlers. Well, you never know when you might need them.

Foodie Hurst
For beer and ale connoisseurs, Hurstpierpoint has a new brewery and tap room that opened in September, called The Hop Tub! Yup, it’s all about hand-crafted beer, small-batch classics and local food. We haven’t eaten there but we heard they source locally, have their own smoker and have both vegan and vegetarian dishes.

If it’s wine you’re after, don’t worry, because just across the way is the South Downs Cellar which has a great selection of Sussex wines including Albourne, Plumpton, Wiston, Bolney, Ridgeview, Breaky Bottom, Nutbourne and more. And while you’re in the mood for food, pop into Hampers to buy … a hamper or a bite to eat. And don’t forget to pop into Rhubarb, the greengrocer and Hurst Butchers before you leave. That’s the foodies taken care of.

Calling all dog lovers
Hurstpierpoint is home to a dog grooming salon with a difference called Be: Dog (based in the High Street). Apart from being mad about all things canine and offering a full list of dog grooming services, they are kind dog groomers, putting the dogs wellbeing first and specialising in anxious and nervous dogs. They are part of the Green Groomers Collective (which recycles dog hair, so it doesn’t end up in landfill) and they even have their own take away café. And yes, they serve local coffee (including Back Yard Coffee from a roastery in Ditchling and Bird & Blend Tea from Brighton). So if you’ve been walking on Wolstonbury Hill, make sure you book your hound in for a groom, browse in their carefully curated boutique and then have a potter around the town.

Cafés and restaurants in Hurst
If it’s coffee shop culture you’re after, all is well because you have a number to choose from. Café Murano is wonderfully quirky. Then there is Fuel opposite and No 7 down the road. There’s also a Village Pizza Kitchen for a casual bite or Morley’s Bistro and The Fig Tree for a bit of fine dining!

What else?
There are all sorts of worthy finds in Hurstpierpoint from dog grooming parlours (with coffee) and pet shops to fashion and crafting! In short, lots of independents and lots of local produce. Happy days indeed.
