Winter in Sussex is anything but dull. Yes, the days are shorter, the temperatures have dropped and there’s a definite chill in the air, but there’s also something rather wonderful about this time of year. Think windswept coastal walks, roaring pub fires, atmospheric Christmas markets, fabulous food and drink, and those little seasonal rituals that make winter worth celebrating.
And that’s exactly what we’re embracing in the latest Sussex Exclusive Winter Magazine. Packed with inspiring places to visit, fascinating people to meet, delicious things to eat and plenty of ideas for making the most of life in Sussex, our latest edition is ready for you to explore.

Wonderful winter days out and Sussex adventures
First up, we’re encouraging you to get out and explore. Winter is a fabulous time to discover Sussex, and we’ve put together some wonderful ideas for days out, short breaks and outdoor adventures.
We’re heading to Midhurst for a weekend of jazz, food and blues, and to Eastbourne for a refreshing January reset. We’re also discovering the magic of Sussex after dark, from illuminated gardens to atmospheric evenings out, and celebrating those little Stepping Stones of Winter that make the colder months special.
For history lovers, we’re exploring the twittens, shipwrecks and smugglers’ tales of Hastings Old Town, while our walking adventures take us along the magnificent 1066 Country Walk, from Pevensey to Rye via Battle. It’s a mighty hike through some of the most historic landscapes in England, with plenty of surprises along the way.
And for those who prefer something a little shorter, we’ve included three beautiful winter walks and three accessible routes, so everyone can enjoy a little fresh Sussex air.

Fascinating people and inspiring conversations
One of our favourite things about creating Sussex Exclusive is meeting interesting people and sharing their stories.
This edition features two wonderful conversations. We catch up with internationally bestselling author Kate Mosse, exploring her passion for history, storytelling and the extraordinary women whose achievements have too often been overlooked.
We also meet Sarah Gorrell, the much-loved voice of BBC Radio Sussex, to discover more about the woman behind the microphone, her curiosity, her career and her rather unexpected rebellious streak.
Both interviews are full of warmth, personality and fascinating insights.

A delicious taste of Sussex
Of course, no edition of Sussex Exclusive would be complete without celebrating our extraordinary local food and drink. Our latest Flavour Hunter introduces some fabulous Sussex producers, from locally grown tea and unusual fermented treats to wonderful wines inspired by 1066 Country.
We’ve also got three hearty winter recipes to warm you from the inside out, including traditional Sussex Smokies, a mushroom and spinach Wellington and an indulgent Sussex apple Biscoff cheesecake.
And because we love a good country pub, our new Table Talk feature takes us to four Sussex pubs, exploring their food, atmosphere and the little things that make each one special.

Homes, gardens and winter wellbeing
Winter is a natural time to turn our attention indoors, and we’ve got plenty of inspiration for making home feel that little bit more special. From advice on staging your property for sale to kitchen worktop inspiration and our selection of winter best buys, there are lots of ideas to explore. We’re also visiting two beautiful Sussex gardens that prove winter can be every bit as colourful and interesting as summer.
On the wellbeing front, we’re talking fitness with the founders of Horsham’s Elevate Fitness and sharing our own Sussex Prescription for winter wellbeing, including six ways to feel better and a rather fun No Spend Sussex Weekender Challenge.
And if your idea of wellbeing involves a comfortable armchair and a really good book, don’t miss our recommended winter reading list.

Business, lifestyle and a little French inspiration
There’s plenty for Sussex professionals too, with expert insights into business networking, practical tax advice and a fabulous venue to discover for your next event or gathering.
And finally, we’re escaping across the Channel to the beautiful Cognac region of France. Our latest travel feature takes us through the vineyards, historic towns and magnificent Cognac houses of the Charente, uncovering the people, places and traditions behind one of France’s most celebrated exports. Along the way, we’ve discovered some gorgeous places to stay, wonderful restaurants and more than a few reasons to plan a visit.
