Explore 1066 country, indulge in afternoon tea, walk the Octagon Way & discover Horsham

What a glorious week of sunshine Sussex has had! On Sunday, Brighton was buzzing in the sun for its annual Half Marathon event (which raises over £1 million for charity) and all across the county, it feels like folk are coming out of hibernation.

All of this means it’s a great time for exploring and I have all sorts of adventurous ideas for you this week.

In the first in our Sussex by Rail series, why not head to the east of Sussex and discover 1066 country. I’ve got a two option itinerary which takes you to Norman castles and strongholds or off the beaten track as you follow the route of the invaders. And no car is needed.

If that’s not for you, head west for a bit of architectural culture in the form of the Octagon Way which is a circular walk that takes you via eight historic churches and finishes at the stunning Stansted Chapel. Or why not head to Horsham, our town of the month, and have a mooch around its twittens, Causeway and Carfax.

Finally, March seems like a very good month to indulge in a spot of afternoon tea. So treat yourself at one of the gorgeous venues in our best places to have afternoon tea feature.

That’s it for now. Long may the sunshine continue.
