This nice easy Pagham to Medmerry cycle ride is perfect for the school holidays. It starts at the Pagham Harbour Nature Reserve Visitor Centre on the B2145 just north of Selsey (post code PO20 7NE, What3Words: mirroring.starch.commoners).

It’s a well made up, traffic free path and it takes you across the road and to Medmerry Nature Reserve. It’s almost completely flat, easy to follow and less than 3 km to Medmerry through a rural landscape.

Recommendation for a low cost day out
Spend some time exploring Pagham Harbour. There is history and wildlife in abundance, and from the Visitor Centre it is possible to walk all the way to Pagham village or to Selsey. It’s also less than a 3 km walk to the beach, or you could park at Church Norton (only .5km from the beach).

The Pagham Visitor Centre
The visitor centre is open daily and it has seasonal nest and wildlife cameras which you can view. They run guided walks and hire binoculars and they also have maps and information as well as a picnic area. They have a small range of refreshments and dogs on leads are welcome. They do run some family events so it’s worth checking for details. After a morning spent exploring Pagham Harbour and a picnic, jump on the bikes and cycle to Medmerry.

Medmerry Nature Reserve
Medmerry is man-made, very beautiful and a haven for wildlife. It includes a network of footpaths and bridleways and 6.25 miles of trails. There are lots of places where you can enjoy a picnic before you cycle back to Pagham.

For the more ambitious
The Pagham to Medmerry cycle route is part of the Bill Way which is a 14.5 km cycle route from Chichester to Medmerry and it is possible (although we haven’t done it) to cycle on to Earnley and then on to West Wittering and join up with Salterns Way. Salterns Way takes you back to Chichester. Medmerry to West Wittering is 11 km and Salterns Way is 19 km making roughly a 44 km circular route of the Manhood Peninsula (stay overnight at the Crab and Lobster if you want to break it up a little).

Alternatively, for the keen walker, walk the cycle route from Pagham to Medmerry and then walk south east to Selsey and Selsey Bill, following the coastal path all the way around the peninsula until you come back to the Visitor Centre. This is about 14.5 km.

There is parking at the Visitor Centre but it is paid.
