If you know me well, you know I like both an adventure and a challenge, and those two things often combine and involve running. But life has got in the way a bit recently and I haven’t done much running lately (for which read none). So I have been on the lookout for some motivation.

Cue Say Aphasia
When Brighton charity Say Aphasia contacted me their work resonated. Aphasia is the loss or impairment of the ability to communicate often following a stroke or brain injury. Having been a professional communicator all my life as either a barrister, public speaker or writer, the thought of losing the wonderful tools of communication struck a deep and emotive chord. (The photo below is not me by the way – too elegant to be me.)

Cue the Brighton Half Marathon
So there we have it. I need a challenge and to get fit for health reasons. Say Aphasia need runners to help raise awareness and to raise funds. I’m behind the curve already because the organisers of the Brighton Half Marathon have informed me that there are less than 10 weeks to go. Eek. Better buy new laces and socks and get running. A half marathon is 21 km. When I last ran, about a month ago, I just managed 2 km. Training at this time of year is grim. I know that from muddy experience. Wish me luck.

Cheer me on, join me, sponsor me
I plan to start training on Boxing Day. Ok, maybe the day after Boxing Day. I’d be delighted if you want to run with me (I laughingly call it running, you may not), cheer me on from the sidelines as I lollop past, or sponsor me. The link to make a donation is here:
