Historic Horsham is a pretty market town in the heart of the West Sussex countryside. Only an hour from London, the Horsham area is home to vineyards, local markets, stunning walks, and a rich history and cultural scene.

If you’re planning an escape to the country, Horsham is also only a short drive from the South Downs National Park and on the edge of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty making it a great base from which to enjoy some of the best countryside in the south as well as some of the buzzing local market towns.

The Pump House at Warnham
Just outside Horsham, you’ll find the village of Warnham, a quintessentially Sussex village with a 14th century church and Field Place, birthplace of the poet Shelley. And in the quiet of a private family farm, is the idyllic Pump House, a perfect place to put down some temporary roots while you relax, recuperate and explore the area.

The Pump House is a delightfully converted old agricultural building that has kept many of the original features. There is a beautiful hand-crafted kitchen with cupboards made from wood from old grain barns. There’s also a luxurious deep double-ended bath (plus walk-in shower with rainfall showerhead) and a bespoke washstand made from a large piece of reclaimed cedar cut from a local tree.

While you enjoy watching the setting sun on the patio that has views across the fields to woodland, the kids can hunker down in the cosy bunkroom. And at the end of the day, you can sink into the luxurious super king bed in the master bedroom that has floor to ceiling glass doors that open on to the patio and garden.

Attention to detail and loving care
The owners have given so much thought to the detail here with hand painted artwork by a local artist (Maryanne Nguyen), organic and sustainable mattresses and beautiful soft linens and towels. And everything has been done to the highest possible standards. You’ve also got all the amenities you need for a stay in the country including a fully equipped kitchen, BBQ, TV, high speed internet connection and a large selection of books, games and toys.

The Pump House is very much a family affair and is owned by three siblings and run with the help of their mother. Together they pooled their respective talents and skills, overseeing the structural work and doing the interior design themselves, giving it a uniquely Sussex feel. Perfect for couples or families, the owners are fast becoming known for their warm welcome (and delicious pastries from nearby Gwyn’s Bakery), and a stay at the Pump House is a great rural retreat and the perfect way to enjoy a little bit of luxury whilst also absorbing this wonderful part of Sussex.
