Discover, explore and savour the best of Sussex

Forgotten Fabergé, mysterious Sussex caves & Christmas gifts

Welcome to this week’s newsletter, which is packed to the rafters with interesting stuff.

Last weekend, I rather foolishly agreed to take part in a Sussex Ultra (a 50 km run) next year. The downside of this is that I’ve already had to get my oversized backside out of my chair in order to start training. The upside is that this week I have been lucky enough to witness some amazing Sussex sunrises as I try and regain a meagre measure of fitness. More of this anon but we do have a beautiful county.

In other news, I have finally acknowledged that Christmas fast approaches, and so, in an attempt to be helpful, I’ve put together some Christmas gift ideas, majoring, of course, on local Sussex businesses and produce. There’s a quirky mixture and I hope you find a little inspiration.

If you’re looking for things to do, there are some really interesting events going on at the Brighton Dome and Museum, which includes mysterious Fabergé objects, Brighton and Hove’s Black History Family Day, and a Christmassy, alternative Christmas film (if you get my drift).  I’ve also been out exploring these intriguing Sussex caves at Lake Wood near Uckfield. Great for Instagram shots but hurry if you want to catch the last of the autumn leaves.

Finally, if you’re still stuck for things to do, I caught up with Ellie Seymour, author of Secret Sussex this week and she shared some more of her favourite Sussex hangouts.

That’s it for now. Happy exploring and have a great weekend.
