Did you see it? In May 2024, Sussex’s own Tottington Manor (near Henfield) featured on Channel 4’s Four in a Bed which, apart from being great entertainment, was a wonderful chance to have a good look around this beautiful 4 star, boutique hotel.

Joint owners Phil Fossey and Helen Pomery’s passion for Tottington was palpable throughout the show as Helen described loving the hotel, “like my child”.

The comments and ratings from the other guests and competitors were great too, describing Tottington as “spotless”, “exceptional” and “amazing” with lots of 10 out of 10s for facilities, cleanliness and sleep, and with the guests loving the luxurious bedding.

Guests stayed in three of the 12 rooms, namely in the Jacuzzi Duplex Suite for £287 / night, the Junior Suite for £227 / night and the Windham Room (Phil’s favourite) for £212 / night, with breakfast included.

During their stay, guests were also taken to nearby Goldstone Rum to learn how to make their own rum, choosing their own botanicals and getting to grips with the distilling equipment!

But of course, there was controversy too. Whilst two of the three sets of guests loved Tottington, using words like “wow” and “FAN-TAS-TIC”, one pair of glamping guests weren’t so sure. You’ll have to watch the show on Catch Up to decide if their comments of “dilapidated” because of a broken roof tile were justified. Or if you’re in Sussex, pop down to Tottington at the foot of the South Downs for a drink on the terrace or a meal in their Terra restaurant and check it out for yourself.

Suffice it to say, Helen and Phil’s bubbly personalities and love for all things Tottington made them great fun to watch and it was lovely to see a beautiful Sussex hotel being showcased on TV.

What a shame they didn’t win but clearly Tottington is a hotel on the up.
