Sussex Autumn Supper Clubs

Sussex autumn supper clubs

I love the Supper Club concept. Great food, interesting venues, and a chance to meet new people. So I was super excited to hear about an autumn supper club event being held at the Knepp Estate in October.

Your host

Your host is professional chef, passionate gardener and hedgerow forager Jacqueline Wise, who is based in Ardingly. She heads up Positively Delicious and if you’re on Instagram, you may have seen some of their gorgeous food photos.

Positively Delicious are on a mission, with an emphasis on sourcing ingredients carefully, reducing food waste, and improving mental and physical health and the health of the planet through inspirational and energising food experiences. Their menus are hyper-seasonal and use organic produce, with a focus on soil health.

The Knepp Estate

If you don’t know the Knepp Estate, it’s 3,500 acres, just south of Horsham, and has been owned by the Burrells for over 220 years. Within the grounds, there is a private castle (built by the architect John Nash) overlooking a lake, the ruins of the original Medieval castle, some fabulous walks, and lots of wildlife. In short, it’s a beautiful pocket of tranquility in the Sussex countryside.

An autumn supper club experience

The Knepp Estate: Regenerative Supper Club is on the 22nd October 2022 in the Cow Barn. This is a four-course feast inspired by the wild, biodynamic and regenerative bounty of Sussex, showcasing meat from the “Pasture for Life” organisation. Pasture for Life is a Community Interest Company that champions the virtues of grass-based farming and meat production.

The menu

As you would expect there is lots of local produce on the menu, including seared trout, wild herb hollandaise, charred roots, crispy onions, smoked paprika; Knepp Estate steak, with Brightleigh Farm bacon and fennel croquettes, creamy Balcombe “Blue Clouds” sauce with seasonal greens; and double Belgian chocolate brownies with wild cobnut cantuccini ice cream and juniper spiced plums. (It is a BYOB (bring your own booze) event and dishes are subject to change based on seasonal availability.)
