The King Charles III England Coast Path is a new National Trail that when complete will run along the entire route of England’s coast. It will be the longest coastal path in the world at 4,345 km (2,700 miles).

West Sussex King Charles III England Coast Path
The West Sussex section of the path is almost complete and you can walk from West Wittering to Shoreham by Sea. At the time of writing, there was a small section still in the planning stage (South Hayling to East Head). East Head to Shoreham is just under 71 km.

East Sussex King Charles III England Coast Path
The East Sussex section currently runs from Shoreham to Eastbourne and is 53 km. The Eastbourne to Camber section is still under development but the Secretary of State has approved the route as far as Rye Harbour. This last section was expected to be complete in 2024 but this currently seems unlikely. We’ll keep you posted.

Walking the Sussex Coast Path
At the moment you can walk just under 124k km along the Sussex coast. It is a dog-friendly route although there are urban sections and you do need to keep your dog under control. At some times of the year there are additional “dog” restrictions so check first. The landscape you’ll travel through is diverse, from gritty, urban Newhaven, nature reserves, town beaches and promenades to cliff tops with achingly beautiful views and steep climbs. Particular areas of interest are the flat nature reserves of Thorney Island and the Selsey Peninsular, Cuckmere Haven and the Seven Sisters.

Once the King Charles III England Coast Path is complete, you will be able to walk around the entire county of Sussex by joining it up with the Sussex Border Path.

Public Transport
Most, if not all, of the major towns along the route have train stations including Bognor, Worthing, Shoreham, Brighton, Newhaven, Seaford, and Eastbourne. There are also various coastal train services along the south coast although you will have to change and there is not one direct train from one end of Sussex to another. The coast is however well served by buses (again, you will need to change).
