Heritage railways, NGS gardens, solstice celebrations & masses of wine!

Hot! But stunning. Sussex this week has been jaw-droppingly beautiful with hazy heat hovering above summer meadows and, for those lucky enough to see it, a Spanish sailing ship drifting quietly along our shores (a replica of the first ship to circumnavigate the globe).

In other news, if you like your wine, tomorrow is the start of National Wine Week (which I have renamed Sussex Wine Week because obviously, Sussex is the epicentre of English wine). And I have an absolutely packed round-up for you of all things Sussex wine with itineraries, pairings, interviews and fun facts.

As part of Lewes month, I’ve been exploring the wider area. Someone suggested Isfield, so I headed over there to visit the Lavender Line and do some walking. The railway is fabulous and worth a visit.

Geoff Stonebanks from the NGS has some more stunning gardens for you to visit in July. The NGS is such a great scheme and you get to see some really stunning gardens, so why not have a look and see what’s open in your area?

Finally, the sharp-witted amongst you will know that we’re fast approaching midsummer and the summer solstice. I always think this is a great chance to reflect on the year so far and with the weather set to be hot, hot, hot for the next few days, what a wonderful opportunity for a late evening walk and a stunning sunset.

That’s it for now. Keep cool and carry on.
