The Lobster Pot in Felpham overlooks the sea and is a very popular eating spot. With tables inside and out, it had been on my list of “must eats” for a while and then I got a chance to check it out twice in a month. Happy days.
What’s on the menu?
If you’re worried that The Lobster Pot is all about the seafood, don’t be. The menu has lots of choice and lots of non-seafood options. They serve breakfast until 2 pm and have mains, salads, burgers, sandwiches, and, of course, seafood. There are also vegetarian and gluten-free options. On my first visit, I had the Seafood Box which does what it says on the tin and includes squid, king prawns, cod, mussels, and whitebait with aioli, tapenade, capers, and fries. Perfect. I love a caper and you don’t come across them often.
On my second visit, I went for the special which was the Huevos Rancheros – perfect for a healthy lunch before an afternoon of walking and exploring. It is, of course, egg, with chorizo, peppers, mixed beans, spinach, avocado, feta, and tortilla. My companion had the halloumi sandwich. Both were wonderfully colourful and full of flavour, and service was quick and friendly.
We did not indulge in pudding but there is a dessert menu that on the day of our visit included the tasty delights of warm chocolate pudding, cheesecake, and affogato!
What do you want to drink?
Their drinks menu includes wine, beer and cocktails, and hot drinks. They have quite a good wine list which includes one Sussex sparkling wine (Nyetimber Classic Cuvée). So if I had one request it would be more Sussex wine, beer, and gin, please! I presume their catch is local but I’d also love to know more about its provenance because it doesn’t say on the menu (and I can’t find a website for them).
Top tips
The Lobster Pot gets busy, particularly the outside seating on a sunny day. On my first visit (which was a sunny summer Saturday) we queued, ordered but then had to queue again to order pudding. In the event, we didn’t. With hindsight, we should have got there earlier. On my second visit, which was a not-so-sunny weekday, we didn’t have to queue.
The Lobster Pot is dog friendly and all in all, this is a great little restaurant on a lovely stretch of the Sussex coast. I will definitely be back.
