The Long Man of Wilmington, A Georgian Christmas & Sparkling Wine

Welcome to this week’s newsletter and our whistlestop tour of the best of Sussex!

Christmas lights are beginning to twinkle and trees are springing up in living rooms everywhere. But what a week it’s been with epic storms, snow, sun, and a new Grinch on the Christmas scene – called Ebenezer Omicron!

Undaunted, there have also been some showstopping moments at SE this week. Sunrise on the top of the South Downs and above the Long Man of Wilmington was one of them. And a visit to Uppark who was decked in her Christmas finery on a cold crisp morning was another where I learnt some more about the amazing women who have helped this house survive to this day.  And what really never ceases to amaze me is that if you chose to, you could walk from Uppark in the far west of Sussex all the way to Wilmington in the east along the South Downs Way! A walk for Boxing Day perhaps.

In other news, I was delighted to visit the House Coren vineyard near Rudgwick last week and sample their new and almost unique sparkling wine. And I was very jealous of our own Lisa Brace who has been trying out the new Horsham ice rink. It all feels very like Christmas to me!

With the weather completely undecided about what it wants to do at the moment, I’m not sure if I should urge you to keep warm, take cover or strip off, but whatever you choose, have a great weekend and enjoy the festivities!
